Before the second season even hits the airwaves, The Traitors, the popular UK show hosted by Claudia Winkleman, has received the green light for a third thrilling season. Studio Lambert has wasted no time and has already started the casting process for Season 3, which is expected to grace our screens towards the latter part of the upcoming year or possibly early the following one. Season 2 is also on the horizon, with the schedule set to be announced soon.
This BAFTA-winning game show format introduces 22 strangers who embark on a quest to win a grand prize of up to £120,000 ($146,000). The catch is that three ‘traitors’ are clandestinely selected to ‘eliminate’ fellow contestants, while the ‘faithfuls’ must strategize to weed them out. Alongside this high-stakes drama, the group engages in daily challenges to maintain the prize fund.
Last year’s debut season was a sensational hit, lauded for its diverse cast, well-planned scheduling, and its knack for generating those essential ‘watercooler’ moments. In addition to the UK success, a second US edition featuring celebrities is set to air on Peacock in the near future. The show’s distributor, All3Media International, has been busily securing deals for The Traitors over the past year, although the Australian version recently faced the ax.
Kalpna Patel-Knight, BBC Head of Entertainment, offered a glimpse of what’s in store for Season 3, promising more psychological gameplay, exhilarating challenges, and, of course, the ever-charming Claudia at the helm. “It will be a thrilling ride for both dedicated fans and newcomers to the series,” she declared, affirming the BBC’s unwavering commitment to The Traitors.
Studio Lambert’s Stephen Lambert expressed his enthusiasm for the show’s reception, stating, “The Traitors has been so warmly received by viewers, critics, and award juries alike. Claudia and the team are eager to keep audiences on the edge of their seats once again with even more daring missions and exceptional players competing in this gripping game of strategy and skill.”
The decision to commission the third series of The Traitors was spearheaded by Patel-Knight. The executive producers at Studio Lambert Scotland include Mike Cotton, Sarah Fay, Lewis Thurlow, and Rosie Franks, with Gemma Scholes as the line producer. Over at the BBC, Neil McCallum and Syeda Irtizaali take the helm as commissioning editors. Originating in the Netherlands through IDTV, an All3Media subsidiary, The Traitors format has undergone further development in collaboration with the RTL Creative Unit and was initially produced by IDTV for RTL4. Worldwide format and tape sales are handled by All3Media International.
