Scheduled for a July 12 release, Sony has officially announced the premiere date for an upcoming Apple Original Films production featuring A-list actors Scarlett Johansson and Channing Tatum. The film, previously identified as “Project Artemis,” is poised to grace screens in premium large formats, with Columbia Pictures taking charge of distribution.
Simultaneously, the highly anticipated collaboration between George Clooney and Brad Pitt, titled “Wolfs,” under the Apple Original Films banner, is set to hit IMAX and premium large format theaters on September 20. Penned and directed by Jon Watts, “Wolfs” explores the narrative of two independent fixers navigating a shared assignment and stars the talented Amy Ryan.
Under the direction of Greg Berlanti, the erstwhile “Project Artemis” boasts a stellar cast, including Jim Rash, Ray Romano, Anna Garcia, Donald Elise Watkins, Noah Robbins, Colin Woodell, Nick Dillenburg, Christian Zuber, and Woody Harrelson. Set against the backdrop of the 1960s space race, this yet-to-be-titled film is scripted by Rose Gilroy. Scarlett Johansson, functioning as a producer under her banner, These Pictures, collaborates with Jonathan Lia and Keenan Flynn in the production alongside Sarah Schechter for Berlanti Productions. Robert Dohrmann serves as the executive producer.
Having secured the rights to the “Project Artemis” package in a notable $100 million deal in 2022, Apple successfully navigated the film’s evolution, resulting in a shift in title. Originally featuring Chris Evans and directed by Jason Bateman, the project underwent changes due to Bateman’s departure, leading to Evans stepping down. Filming unfolded in Atlanta last fall.
Equally captivating, “Wolfs” also underwent a competitive bidding process, with Apple emerging triumphant over rival studios for the project. Watts, doubling as a writer and producer, is joined by Dianne McGunigle in production, while Clooney and Pitt produce alongside Grant Heslov through Smokehouse Pictures and Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner for Plan B Entertainment.
