“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” made a significant splash at the global box office, securing the top spot with a formidable $108 million during its opening weekend, as reported by Comscore.
The weekend also saw the triumphant reign of Warner Bros. and DC Studio’s “Aquaman 2” at the U.S. box office, continuing its dominance.
In a compelling second place, “Wonka” showcased its enduring popularity with a remarkable global weekend collection of $50.9 million, amassing a grand total of $247 million.
Breaking into the scene in third place was the Indian action extravaganza “Salaar Part 1 – Ceasefire,” starring the renowned Prabhas from “Baahubali” and directed by the accomplished Prashant Neel of “K.G.F.” fame. The film made an impactful debut with $39 million, including an impressive $5.5 million in North America, where it secured the third position as well.
Adding to the international flair, the Indian film “Dunki,” a compelling immigration drama-comedy featuring Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan and directed by the celebrated Rajkumar Hirani of “3 Idiots” and “PK” fame, claimed the fourth position with a weekend earning of $22.9 million. The film, opening on December 21, has already amassed a total of $23.8 million.
As Christmas Day unfolded, a public holiday in India, films like “Salaar” and “Dunki” were poised to experience a surge in numbers, given the open cinemas during the festival season.
The fifth position belonged to the well-received animated feature “Migration,” which garnered $20.2 million over the weekend, accumulating a total of $34.2 million after two weekends in theaters.
In the global arena, the Chinese crime drama “Endless Journey” secured the sixth position with a weekend collection of $15 million, contributing to a cumulative total of $59.6 million.
Disney’s offering, “Wish,” held steady in seventh place, generating an additional $10.7 million and pushing its global total to $144.2 million.
The eighth spot went to the epic Korean naval battle film “Noryang: Deadly Sea,” the latest installment in Kim Han-min’s trilogy, earning a total of $9.3 million internationally after claiming the top spot in Korea on December 20.
Continuing its presence in the top ranks, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” secured the ninth position, amassing an additional $7 million and reaching a total of $314.4 million.
Closing the list at the tenth position was the Korean blockbuster “12.12: The Day,” with a weekend earning of $6.2 million, contributing to a cumulative total of $62.8 million.
