Daisy Ridley is preparing to reprise her role as Rey in an upcoming “Star Wars” movie, and she’s shared that the plot is “unexpected.”
In a conversation with Collider, Ridley reflected on her surprise appearance at London’s Star Wars Celebration, where it was unveiled that Rey would take center stage in the first “Star Wars” film since 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.”
“I was extremely nervous before stepping on stage because no one anticipated my presence. Only a few, like Kathy [Kennedy], were aware I would be at Celebration,” Ridley disclosed to Collider. “The reception was overwhelmingly positive. It was a fantastic moment.”
Regarding the film’s storyline, Ridley hinted, “I’m eagerly anticipating it. The narrative is intriguing. I haven’t read the script yet, as I don’t have any further updates. It’s different from what I envisioned, but I’m genuinely excited.”
Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (“Ms. Marvel”) and scripted by Steven Knight (“Peaky Blinders”), the movie is expected to pick up after the events of “Rise of Skywalker,” focusing on Rey as she establishes a new Jedi Order.
Since the announcement of Rey’s return, fans have speculated whether this film will be a standalone or the beginning of a new “Star Wars” film series. When asked if she envisions her next movie as the start of a trilogy, Ridley clarified that she’s only aware of one storyline at the moment.
“I know the storyline for one film. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the only one, but that’s the information I’ve received. I believe it will be the next film, but again, with potential delays due to strikes and other factors, the timeline for production remains uncertain. So far, I’m acquainted with the plot of one film, and I think audiences will be thrilled.”
