Zee Studios’ film, “Gandhi Talks,” helmed by Kishor P. Belekar, enjoyed a full house premiere at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.
The ensemble cast features Aravind Swami, Vijay Sethupathi, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Siddharth Jadhav. The latter trio graced the premiere, joined by the director and the acclaimed composer A.R. Rahman, known for his Oscar-winning work on “Slumdog Millionaire.”
A unique facet of this dark comedy is its lack of dialogue, relying solely on Rahman’s musical composition. Rahman expressed, “This film is a testament to the director’s respect for my creative contribution, allowing me the freedom to compose. It serves as my showcase, and I thoroughly enjoyed the creative process, making adjustments as needed.”
Sethupathi shared insights, stating, “The narrative follows a character’s journey from seeking justice to discovering the essence of Gandhi within. It was a challenging undertaking, and I aimed to embody Kishore’s vision. I chose it for its broad appeal, transcending religious and linguistic barriers through its silent narrative.”
Shariq Patel, the chief business officer at Zee Studios, remarked, “The elimination of dialogue was an intriguing concept. With the talent involved and A.R. Rahman’s participation, it transformed into a robust mainstream project. We are delighted that it has been selected at the esteemed International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and eagerly anticipate its global premiere.”
“Gandhi Talks” contributes to Zee Studios’ successful year, following hits like “Gadar 2,” “12th Fail,” Berlin selection “Aatmapamphlet,” and “Vaalvi,” along with Cannes selection “Kennedy,” Rotterdam premiere “Joram,” and IFFLA title “Berlin.” Global audiences can anticipate the theatrical release of “Joram” on December 8.
