TV presenter and actress Annabel Giles has passed away following a diagnosis of a brain tumor in July. Renowned for her roles in the children’s show Razzmatazz, the 1993 film Riders, and as a model for Max Factor, Giles, 64, underwent brain surgery and radiotherapy. Her children, Molly and Tedd, described her as “one of a kind” in their confirmation of their “incredible mother’s” death. Giles, also known for her 2013 appearance on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! and ITV’s Posh Frocks And New Trousers with Sarah Greene, was born in Griffithstown near Pontypool.
In a social media tribute, Molly and Tedd revealed that their mother passed away at Martlets Hospice in Hove after demonstrating “remarkable resilience and strength” over four months. They celebrated her unique personality, quick wit, and unwavering spirit, stating that her humor and laughter would inspire them to live life to the fullest.
Giles had been diagnosed with stage 4 glioblastoma, and in her final weeks, she passionately worked to raise awareness about this type of tumor, reflecting her lifelong commitment to helping others. After retraining as a counselor, she became the resident agony aunt on BBC Wales’s Eleri Sion radio show. Colleagues, including radio presenter Eleri Sion and Channel 4’s Krishnan Guru-Murthy, praised Giles for her warmth, wisdom, and wit. Fellow broadcaster Sue Perkins and comedian Jenny Eclair fondly remembered her as a “beautiful human” and “beautiful, funny, and clever,” respectively. Giles was married in the 1980s to Midge Ure, lead singer of Ultravox and founder of Band Aid and Live Aid.
