Jodie Foster and Kali Reis take the lead as Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro in the latest season of True Detective, titled Night Country. HBO hit the jackpot again with this crime drama, and even after a five-year break, it still pulled in a whopping 2 million viewers across Max and regular TV, according to Deadline.
Issa López, the genius behind the show, wrote and directed this perfectly spine-chilling comeback, earning a lot of cheers from fans. Just to put things into perspective, the first episode of the last season of Succession got 2.3 million views, and Euphoria’s Season 2 premiere hit 2.4 million. And guess what? True Detective’s numbers are expected to climb even higher in the next few days, just like Succession and Euphoria experienced.
Fans didn’t waste any time catching up on past seasons before the new one started. In fact, True Detective was the most-watched title on Max in the week leading up to the Season 4 premiere. The new season boasts a solid 92 percent approval on Rotten Tomatoes, with audiences giving it a thumbs up at 74 percent.
The story unfolds in the icy town of Ennis, Alaska, where Detectives Liz Danvers and Evangeline Navarro, played by Jodie Foster and Kali Reis, are on the hunt for eight missing men from the Tsalal Arctic Research Station. Even though they don’t exactly see eye to eye, Liz and Evangeline have to team up to uncover the dark secrets hidden under the ice.
People are loving the performances and the overall vibe of the show. Besides Foster and Reis, the cast includes John Hawkes, Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, Isabella Star LaBlanc, and Aka Niviâna. Issa López is not only the brains behind the script and direction but also an executive producer.
