Network Connection Issues Affect Thousands of Netflix Users on Connected TV Devices
On Monday, numerous Netflix members reported encountering difficulties accessing the service through connected TV devices, signaling network connection problems with the apps.
Around 5:52 p.m. ET, error reports for Netflix started surging on Downdetector, reaching over 17,000 by 6:22 p.m. ET. A Netflix representative acknowledged the unexpected technical issues, stating that engineers were actively working to resolve the problem and would provide updates.
By approximately 8 p.m. ET, it seemed that the issue had been resolved. Users described the problem as causing the device, such as a TV, to mistakenly perceive a lack of internet connection, prompting an internet speed test. Even after passing the test, the app would loop and request users to restart the router.
The extent of the Netflix playback issues remains unclear, but users in various countries reported experiencing problems. The cause of the issues is currently unknown.
Images shared on social media indicated that the Netflix app was stuck in a cycle of checking the network connection and verifying the user’s broadband speed. The error code (“tvq-pb-101”) suggested troubleshooting steps such as restarting the device or attempting to log out and sign in again, according to Netflix’s help center.
Netflix, like any internet service, occasionally faces technical challenges. Earlier this year, the company encountered significant delays during the livestream of the reunion for the popular dating show “Love Is Blind,” attributing the glitch to a bug inadvertently introduced during system tweaks aimed at improving performance.
