The company responsible for the Harry Potter film series is planning a substantial expansion that has the potential to positively impact the UK economy by over £200m.
Warner Bros Studios Leavesden (WBSL) is set to undergo expansion, with the inclusion of 10 new sound stages and an additional 400,000 sq ft (37,000 sq metres) of production and support space.
The production capacity at the expanded Hertfordshire location is set to increase by over 50%. Additionally, WBSL will become a primary production hub for DC Studios.
The project is projected to generate 4,000 jobs, both directly and indirectly, throughout Britain and increase WBSL’s contribution to the UK economy by over £200 million, according to Warner Bros Discovery.
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt stated that Warner Bros Discovery’s investment in the site is a significant demonstration of confidence in the UK.
The creative industries in the UK have a significant impact, with films and television shows being distributed globally, including the Barbie and House of the Dragon series.
Warner Bros. Discovery’s plan to expand its Leavesden studio is expected to generate significant economic growth and job opportunities in the UK, while also ensuring that British-made entertainment continues to captivate global audiences.
Simon Robinson, the chief operating officer of Warner Bros Discovery Studios, stated that they are pleased to expand their productions in Leavesden and establish it as the primary hub for DC Studios. Additionally, they are proud to increase their economic and community contributions to the creative sector in the UK.
Construction on the project is scheduled to commence next year, with the expansion anticipated to be finished in 2027.
Both the Barbie movie and HBO series House of the Dragon were filmed on WBSL’s sound stages alongside other recent productions.
The studio is responsible for the development of the Harry Potter franchise, and its fan tours are a popular tourist attraction.
