The upcoming live-action “Knuckles” series, featuring Idris Elba as the titular character, has announced its cast. The show, which was announced in February 2022 and will be available on Paramount+, has assembled a talented ensemble, including Adam Pally who will reprise his role as Wade Whipple from the “Sonic the Hedgehog” film franchise.
Set between the events of “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” and the anticipated release of “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” in theaters on December 20, 2024, the series follows Knuckles as he agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior, as stated in the official logline.
The cast also includes Edi Patterson (The Righteous Gemstones), Julian Barratt (Mindhorn), Scott Mescudi (Don’t Look Up), and Ellie Taylor (Ted Lasso) in recurring roles, and Rory McCann (Game of Thrones) as a guest star. Tika Sumpter will also reprise her role as Maddie from the films. Additional casting announcements will be made in the future.
Production for the series has already begun in London, with John Whittington, who worked on the screenplay for “Sonic the Hedgehog 2,” serving as head writer and executive producer. Jeff Fowler, director of both “Sonic the Hedgehog” films, will direct the pilot episode and also serve as an executive producer. Other executive producers include Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher of Original Film, Toru Nakahara, and Idris Elba. Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker are also attached as directors for various episodes. The series is produced by Paramount Pictures and Sega of America.
The “Sonic the Hedgehog” film was released in theaters in February 2020, followed by the sequel in April 2022, collectively grossing over $405 million at the global box office.
